IndonesiaTravelling with ADHD medication: rules, permits and documents

Asia

Last checked 24 Jul 2026High confidenceHow we rate a record

Indonesia treats these medications differently. Of the 7 we track, 2 are not allowed in at all, 1 comes in on paperwork with a supply cap, 1 has no published rule we could find and 3 need only your prescription.

Serious penalties: Narcotics offences carry penalties up to death (Law 35/2009), and the amphetamines, including dexamfetamine and Adderall, are narcotics here. Methylphenidate is a Golongan II psychotropic and is admitted on an English prescription up to 60 days, for foreign nationals only.

By medication

Brand names first, generic in brackets. Each line resolves the drug class rule below, plus anything Indonesia records specifically for that medication.

  • Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine)Unclearreclassified here as narcotic

The narcotics annex catches amphetamine salts, esters and derivatives, and lisdexamfetamine is a dexamfetamine prodrug, but no source we hold says whether it is prohibited outright like dexamfetamine or admitted through the Special Access Scheme. Given the penalties here, a written answer from BPOM naming lisdexamfetamine is what would settle it.

  • Ritalin, Concerta (methylphenidate)Restrictedmax 60 days' supply

Psikotropika Golongan II, not a narcotic. PMK 5/2023 names METILFENIDAT in the Keterangan column of DAFTAR PSIKOTROPIKA GOLONGAN II, and Permenkes 6/2025 lists it as a Golongan II psychotropic; the narcotics reclassification, Permenkes 15/2025, does not mention it. BPOM admits Golongan II, III and IV psychotropics for treatment on an English prescription, up to 60 days.

  • Dexamphetamine (dexamfetamine)Bannedreclassified here as narcotic

    In the narcotics annex.

  • Strattera (atomoxetine)Prescription

Atomoxetine, guanfacine and viloxazine are not internationally controlled; treat as ordinary prescription medicines. Carry prescription, doctor's letter and original packaging given Indonesia's strict enforcement.

  • Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts)Bannedreclassified here as narcotic

In the narcotics annex; not permitted as ordinary carry.

  • Intuniv (guanfacine)Prescription

The same rule as Strattera above.

  • Qelbree (viloxazine)Prescription

The same rule as Strattera above.

Connecting through Indonesia

Staying airside, never clearing immigration:
no official guidance found, so assume the full entry rules apply. Indonesia publishes nothing on transit and has filed no traveller rules with the INCB. Given that narcotics offences carry capital penalties here, do not read the silence as permission.
Clearing immigration for a layover:
the full entry rules apply. Clearing immigration means entering Indonesian territory, where the full rules apply.
Changing airports:
the full entry rules apply. An airport change needs full clearance into Indonesia.
Overnight layover, leaving the airport:
the full entry rules apply. Leaving the airport means clearing immigration and customs.
Checked bag travelling without you:
not allowed at all, whatever paperwork you hold. Psychotropic medicines may be carried in your own baggage but may never be sent by post or courier. Having medication mailed to you is itself an offence.
