San Marino treats these medications differently. Of the 7 we track, 4 have no published rule we could find and 3 need only your prescription.
Serious penalties: Legge 139/1997 Art. 1, read with Codice Penale Art. 244, punishes bringing a scheduled substance into the territory of the Republic without authorisation, and unauthorised possession of one, with second-degree imprisonment ('la prigionia di secondo grado'), whether or not there is a commercial purpose. The only exemption is personal use that conforms to a prescription the Istituto per la Sicurezza Sociale has issued or would recognise as valid — it does not by its terms reach the introduction offence, and no source describes how that recognition happens for a traveller carrying a foreign prescription or what the introduction authorisation is, so relying on the exemption means relying on an unpublished procedure.

Does not appear by name in either the 1997 or the 2021 text of Legge 139/1997 Art. 12, and no other San Marino source addresses it. Absence from the schedule is recorded as an absence, not as permission.
- Ritalin, Concerta (methylphenidate)Unclear
Present on the pre-2021 wording of Legge 139/1997 Art. 12 ('metilfenidato'), which is the wording still carried by the original 1997 promulgation text held in the legislative archive. Decreto Delegato 64/2021 expressly replaces the whole of Art. 12 with a new list that does not name methylphenidate, so the substance is not on the schedule as it now stands. What no source states is what regime, if any, then governs it. The Consiglio Grande e Generale publishes no consolidated text of Legge 139/1997 at all (its 'Testi Coordinati' section and both relevant sub-indexes were read on 2026-08-16 and contain none), so there is no competing official statement of current law: this is an unpublished consequence, not a conflict. Art. 1's exemption covers personal use only and requires an ISS-issued or ISS-recognised prescription, with no published route to that recognition and no description of the introduction authorisation, so the position is unclear on the same reasoning as the narcotic class.
