Two doors that close beat every accessibility feature the hotel advertised

A two bedroom apartment with a kitchenette, ground floor, off the main road. Housekeeping declined for the whole stay so nobody entered the room. Blackout curtains were the one thing missing, and pegs solved it.

If you only read this bit

Worked
Two bedrooms with doors, a kitchenette, and declining housekeeping for the whole stay
Did not work
Curtains that did not meet in the middle
Ask for
A ground floor room away from the lift and the road, and no daily service

The accessibility page listed grab rails, a roll in shower and a hearing loop, none of which was the thing that made the stay work. What made it work was that two people could be in different rooms with the doors shut.

Declining housekeeping was the second thing. A stranger entering the room on an unpredictable schedule undoes a week of settling in, and the request was taken without a follow up call to check we meant it.

Access details, as at Apr 2026

Housekeeping: declined for the whole stay at check in, honoured without a reminder.

Noise: ground floor, back of the building, away from the lift. No corridor noise.

Kitchen: full kitchenette, which is what made familiar food possible.

What we would do differently: bring pegs. Hotel curtains almost never meet in the middle, and it is a two second fix that nobody packs for.
