A limit of our data: Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts) and Dexamphetamine are different medicines. Adderall is a mix of dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine; dexamfetamine is dextroamphetamine on its own, and international drug schedules list them as separate substances. We hold one combined amphetamine rule per country, so this page cannot tell you whether Vietnam treats them differently. Give the authority the exact product and generic name on your prescription when you check. The answer here is the same as for Dexamphetamine in Vietnam.
The rules for Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts)
Vietnam's controlled drug schedule (Circular 20/2017/TT-BYT, consolidated to November 2024) does not name dexamfetamine or the mixed amphetamine salts in Adderall anywhere. They are on neither the narcotic list nor the psychotropic list, checked by every spelling variant, and the only amphetamine family entry on the schedule is etilamfetamine, a different substance. Three readings are open and Vietnam has published nothing that settles which is right: the medicines may be treated as ordinary uncontrolled medicine, they may be unregistered in Vietnam and refusable at the border on that ground, or the schedule may simply never have covered them. Being absent from the schedule is not the same as being allowed in. The question is worth putting to the Vietnamese embassy in writing before you book.
Maximum supply: 10 days (Ten days is the licence free allowance Vietnam publishes for scheduled psychotropic medicines. Dexamfetamine and the amphetamine salts in Adderall are not on that schedule, so no allowance is published for them and this figure is not confirmed for these medicines.)
What to do
- valid prescription (with patient details, drug name, strength, quantity/days, dosage, prescriber name/signature/address)
- medication in original labelled packaging
- customs declaration on arrival
Confirm this yourself: This is based on official guidance we could not confirm against a current national source. Check with Provincial or municipal Department of Health at your point of entry. The national regulator is the Drug Administration of Vietnam, Ministry of Health. or Vietnam's embassy before you travel.
