The rules for Dexamphetamine (dexamfetamine)
Belgium's medicines agency FAMHP states the entry rule positively: "A traveller who needs to bring along narcotic or psychotropic substances into Belgium for medical treatment must be able to justify this with a valid medical prescription or a certificate validated by the government." For a traveller arriving from outside the Schengen area, such as from Australia, that is the whole requirement, and FAMHP issues no permit for it. FAMHP is clear about the limit of its own role: "The FAMHP is only competent for validating Schengen declarations ... for citizens domiciled in Belgium who must take these medicines with them during their journey to a country within the Schengen area. We do not validate documents for other medicines, citizens domiciled abroad or travels to countries outside the Schengen area." A traveller who is domiciled in the Schengen area uses a Schengen declaration validated by their own country's authority instead. Belgium reported the same two routes to the International Narcotics Control Board in January 2025, marking a valid medical prescription and a doctor's certificate endorsed by the health authorities of the country of residence. Sending narcotic or psychotropic substances to Belgium by post is forbidden. Amphetamine and dexamfetamine sit on Belgium's Annex IIb under the Royal Decree of 6 September 2017; Adderall itself is not a registered product in Belgium, so a local refill should not be assumed.
Maximum supply: 90 days (FAMHP states: "The maximum amount of medicines brought along to Belgium may not exceed a treatment duration of three months." Belgium reported the same 90 day figure to the International Narcotics Control Board in January 2025, with the quantity not to exceed the appropriate amount based on the usual daily dose. A traveller domiciled in the Schengen area instead carries a Schengen declaration validated by their own country, which covers one medicine for up to 30 days per form and can reach 90 days in total with further forms.)
What to do
- valid prescription
- for Schengen residents, a Schengen certificate endorsed by the health authorities of the country of residence
