The rules for Ritalin (methylphenidate)
You need written permission from the Narcotics Commissioner before you leave, whatever the quantity. This medicine is a scheduled psychotropic substance but it is not on India's prohibited import list, so permission is genuinely available.
What to do
- valid prescription (with INN/generic names)
- specialist/doctor's letter on headed paper (diagnosis, medication by INN and brand, dose, medical necessity)
- prior permission from India's Narcotics Commissioner if supply exceeds ~30 days / 100 dosage units
- medication in original packaging
