Every medication we track can come into Ireland on your prescription, carried in original packaging.
Serious penalties: Prescribed and non-prescribed cannabis-based products are never permitted into Ireland regardless of documentation, and Irish Customs has the final say on whether any traveller's paperwork supports the quantity of medicine they are carrying.
By medication
Brand names first, generic in brackets. Each line resolves the drug class rule below, plus anything Ireland records specifically for that medication.
- Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine)Prescription
Identical route and documentation to the narcotic class for a traveller arriving from outside the Schengen area: prescription and/or doctor's letter, no Irish permit, and the same unresolved 3-months-versus-30-days divergence between gov.ie and Ireland's 2025 INCB submission. Ireland's Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2017 place methylphenidate, dexamfetamine, lisdexamfetamine and amphetamine (the base substance underlying mixed-amphetamine-salts/Adderall) on Schedule 2, the same schedule as the opioids above; Irish law does not separate a 'psychotropic' tier from 'narcotic' for these substances, though this legal detail does not change the traveller-facing rule, which gov.ie states identically for both.

Narcotic (opioids)
Prescription- Quantity
- Unresolved: two official Irish sources give different figures for the same substances and nothing published reconciles them. The Department of Health's traveller page, in its non-Schengen section, says 'Visitors to Ireland may bring up to 3 months’ supply of prescription medicines with them for their own personal use' — explicitly scoped to arrivals from outside the Schengen area, which covers Australia. Ireland's own 2025 INCB submission, filed by the same Departmental unit two years later, states '30-day supply' for narcotic drugs in an unqualified Restrictions column. A third 30-day figure is separately scoped to the Article 75 Certificate for Schengen-resident arrivals. No number is recorded as the allowance; ask the Medicines, Controlled Drugs and Pharmacy Legislation Unit (controlled_drugs@health.gov.ie) before relying on more than 30 days' supply.

- Not required. No Irish permit or certificate is asked of a traveller arriving from outside the Schengen area; the requirement for an Article 75 Certificate applies only to arrivals from within the Schengen area, and it is issued by the traveller's home country.

Psychotropic (ADHD stimulants, benzodiazepines, sleep)
Prescription- Quantity
- Unresolved, on the same conflict as the narcotic class and from the same two documents: gov.ie's 'up to 3 months’ supply' for a non-Schengen arrival against Ireland's 2025 INCB submission, which states 'Psychotropic substances … 30-day supply' in an unqualified Restrictions column. The Department of Health's page treats narcotics and psychotropic substances identically throughout, and so does the INCB table. No number is recorded as the allowance.

- Not required. Same as narcotic class: no Irish permit for a non-Schengen arrival.

Not internationally controlled
