The rules for Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts)
Ireland's Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2017 place amphetamine and dexamfetamine on Schedule 2, so both are controlled drugs in Ireland. The Department of Health publishes one traveller page that covers prescribed narcotics and psychotropic substances together, and it splits the rule by where the traveller arrives from rather than by medicine. Its non-Schengen section, which is the one that covers a flight from Australia, reads: "Visitors to Ireland may bring up to 3 months' supply of prescription medicines with them for their own personal use." Ireland's 2025 submission to the International Narcotics Control Board, filed by the same Department of Health unit two years later, instead states a 30-day supply restriction for psychotropic substances, in a column that carries no Schengen qualifier. Nothing published reconciles those two figures, so both are recorded here and neither is treated as the allowance. No Irish permit, licence or certificate is described for an arrival from outside the Schengen area. What the page describes is documentation: the prescription or a copy of it, and a letter from the doctor or dispensing pharmacist setting out the condition and confirming personal use, carried inside the package with the medicine in its original labelled packaging. Irish Customs decides whether the documentation supports the amount carried and has the final say. Prescribed and non-prescribed cannabis-based products are never permitted into Ireland. A separate regime applies only to arrivals from inside the Schengen area: an Article 75 certificate issued by the traveller's own country of residence, covering a maximum of 30 days' supply. The Medicines, Controlled Drugs and Pharmacy Legislation Unit at the Department of Health (controlled_drugs@health.gov.ie) is the authority that can say which quantity applies.
