Spain treats these medications differently. Of the 7 we track, 3 need approval before you arrive, 1 comes in on paperwork with a supply cap and 3 need only your prescription.
By medication
Brand names first, generic in brackets. Each line resolves the drug class rule below, plus anything Spain records specifically for that medication.
- Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine)Permit requiredmax 90 days' supply
Carry a valid prescription and a doctor's certificate and obtain the AEMPS traveller permit before travel. The quantity ceiling is published as three months (AEMPS, 2026) and as 30 days (INCB, 2017); the two are not reconciled.

- Strattera (atomoxetine)Prescription
Atomoxetine, guanfacine ER and viloxazine are not internationally scheduled; a normal prescription suffices.
- Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts)Restrictedmax 90 days' supply
No mixed amphetamine salts product (Adderall and equivalents) holds a Spanish marketing authorisation; the AEMPS CIMA register returns no result for that composition. The AEMPS traveller permit is granted on the substance being under international control rather than on the product being authorised in Spain, so bring your own supply and apply for the permit as normal. Plan on not being able to refill or replace it locally: AEMPS caps the inbound permit at three months and says that after that the medicine must be obtained through Spanish legal channels, which for an unauthorised product means the foreign-medicine (medicamentos extranjeros) route via your autonomous community's contact point.

Psychotropic (ADHD stimulants, benzodiazepines, sleep)
Permit required- Quantity
- 90 days. AEMPS's current traveller page (2026): the quantity must suit the prescribed treatment and not exceed what is needed for three months, exceptionally more if justified. Spain's 2017 INCB submission gave 30 days for psychotropic substances; the current page from the issuing authority governs, and the 2017 figure is recorded here for the record. Recorded as 90 days at 30 days to the month.
- Permit
- Required. Apply at least 15 days ahead. AEMPS's current page says travellers entering Spain request the permit from its Área de Estupefacientes y Psicótropos (estupefacientes_viajeros@aemps.es). Spain's 2017 INCB submission says the 'Permiso de Viajeros' is obtained through the Spanish embassy or consulate in the country of origin, which processes it through AEMPS. Use the AEMPS route and allow time; the permit covers at most three months of treatment.
Not internationally controlled
PrescriptionAtomoxetine, guanfacine ER and viloxazine are not internationally scheduled; a normal prescription suffices.
