The Ministry of Health and Welfare describes methylphenidate as a prescription medicine and a Schedule 3 controlled drug in Taiwan, dispensed on a dedicated controlled-drug prescription after a doctor's diagnosis. What is not published is how Taiwan treats it in a traveller's luggage: no TFDA or MOHW page states a traveller rule for ADHD stimulants, and no stimulant-specific quantity table was found, so the position for methylphenidate carried across the border is left open here rather than assumed. What a traveller can rely on is TFDA's general rule for controlled medicines: carry the doctor's prescription or medical certificate, carry no more than the reasonable dosage stated on that document and at most a six-month supply, two months without a prescription or certificate, and hand-carry the medicine, since controlled drugs may never be posted or couriered. For Schedule 1 to 3 controlled drugs, a patient may also lodge a statement with TFDA in advance, with a doctor's certificate giving the diagnosis, treatment history and reason the medicine is needed. TFDA describes that as optional and for the record, free of charge, taking about seven working days.
