Can I take Adderall to Mauritius?

According to Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health and Wellness (the Government Pharmacist), Adderall may not be permitted in Mauritius, even with a prescription. We have not been able to confirm this against a current national source, so do not travel with it until you have checked directly.

A limit of our data: Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts) and Dexamphetamine are different medicines. Adderall is a mix of dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine; dexamfetamine is dextroamphetamine on its own, and international drug schedules list them as separate substances. We hold one combined amphetamine rule per country, so this page cannot tell you whether Mauritius treats them differently. Give the authority the exact product and generic name on your prescription when you check. The answer here is the same as for Dexamphetamine in Mauritius.

The rules for Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts)

Amphetamine and dexamfetamine are both named in Part I of the First Schedule to the Dangerous Drugs Act 2000. Section 6 of that Act says no person shall at any time produce, manufacture, trade, distribute, transport, possess, supply, transfer, purchase, use, import, export or transit across Mauritius any substance listed in the First Schedule. The only exception is section 7, under which the Permanent Secretary may authorise a person to import, use or hold a First Schedule substance for medical or scientific research, teaching or the forensic science services, in quantities not exceeding what that purpose strictly requires. There is no published route for a patient's own treatment, and the prohibition covers transit as well as entry, so a connecting flight through Mauritius is caught by it.

What to do

  1. valid prescription
  2. doctor's letter/certificate detailing diagnosis and exact dosage
  3. prior clearance/authorization from the Government Pharmacist, Ministry of Health and Wellness
  4. medication in original pharmacy packaging
  5. use Red Channel at customs on arrival

Confirm this yourself: We could not verify this ban against a current national government source, so treat it as a ban until you have confirmed it. Ask Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health and Wellness (the Government Pharmacist) or Mauritius's embassy in writing before you book, and keep their reply with your travel documents.
