The rules for Concerta (methylphenidate (extended release))
Methylphenidate is listed in Part 5 of Schedule 1 of Fiji's Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004, the same schedule as opioids such as morphine and oxycodone, and the same traveller exemption applies to it. Section 11(1)(a) allows a person undergoing treatment of a medical condition who is entering, leaving or transiting through Fiji to possess a lawfully prescribed or supplied quantity for a period of not more than one month. The Fiji Medicines Regulatory Authority's Guidelines for Import of Medicinal Products into Fiji, dated 20 May 2025, require only evidence at the border that the medicine was legally prescribed and supplied: an original or certified prescription, a signed prescriber's letter with contact details, or identifying labelling naming the patient, prescriber and supplier. A conflict in that same Guidelines document is unresolved: one clause states that products on Schedule 1 of the Illicit Drugs Control Act also require a separate Fiji MRA import permit, and the traveller section does not mention any permit. Fiji MRA (FijiMRA@health.gov.fj, phone 8921665) is the authority that can confirm which applies, and no fee or lead time for such a permit is published.
Maximum supply: 30 days (One month, from the section 11(1)(a) personal-treatment exemption in the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004, which covers entry, exit and transit on the same terms.)
