The rules for Ritalin (methylphenidate)

Methylphenidate is a narcotic (Suchtgift) in Austrian law, so SV § 24 governs it. Up to 30 days' supply. Up to 5 days' supply needs no proof of a prescription; from 5 to 30 days' supply, carry at least a copy of your prescription. A certified certificate (Annex X for travellers from outside Schengen) is needed only if the prescription is not in Latin script and in German or English, or if you carry more than 2,000 mg of methylphenidate.

Maximum supply: 30 days (Up to 30 days' supply (SV § 24(1)); above 2,000 mg of methylphenidate a certified certificate is needed)

What to do

  1. copy of your prescription, if you carry more than 5 days' supply: it must show your name, your doctor's name, the medicine and the narcotic it contains with their quantities, and the dosage
  2. a certified certificate on the Annex X model, only if your prescription is not in Latin script and in German or English, or if you carry more than 2,000 mg of methylphenidate
